Who now?

I never bought the contention that the Spin Doctors constituted the antithesis of "grunge," and this isn't the first time i've heard that claim made. It's certainly true that "Little Miss Can't Be Wrong" and "Two Princes" were lyrically, thematically, and melodically a far cry from, like, "Rape Me," that the Spin Doctors in their heyday were a poppified, proto jam band (maybe i'm just saying that cause Chris Barron looked like a neohippy) power pop act without the Gin Blossom's more melancholy, ironic sensibilities. But i still feel like, and perhaps this is more an indicator of, more than any thing else, my musical naivete in 1991-1992, but the distorted guitars which the spin doctors used didn't really sound that different fromthose played by Mike Mcready and Jeff Ament, like there was some grunge structure of feeling initially large enough to incorporate bands that sounded nothing like Nirvana and were from nowhere near Seattle and weren't remotlely linked, musically or aesthetically, to whatever project Vedder, Cobain, et. al might have shared. "Grunge" was a big tent because it was a wholly fictitious category. The stone temple pilots knew this, and they took it and ran with it until the heroin caught up with scott weiland. And Alice in Chains figured it out too and used the label to escape from the hairmetal they'd previously been playing.

Can anyone tell me why the new version of iTunes won't let me transfer pruchased music to my iPod? What the *&^%?
