Walter Benjamin, the German literary critic, once wrote, "No translation would be possible if in its ultimate essence it strove for likeness to the original."
Rabassa's translation of The Autumn of The Patriarch is next on my reading list after I finish Gender Trouble, and i remember being impressed with his tranlations of Cien anos de soledad and the various Marquez short stories I read in high school.
