WATERBURY - Three doctors who sued Yale University, claiming they were retaliated against after they raised concerns about misdiagnoses that endangered patients' lives and Medicare fraud, won more than $5.5 million in a verdict issued Friday. Yale will appeal the verdict, said Thomas Conroy, spokesman for Yale University. The doctors, Morton Burrell, Arthur Rosenfield and Robert Smith, filed the lawsuit in 2000. They claim they were retaliated against with salary cuts and removal from positions of authority after they criticized the treatment of patients in the diagnostic radiology department in the School of Medicine. The six-member Superior Court jury concluded the men spoke out as concerned citizens and Yale intentionally subjected them to discipline because of their comments.
You know, it really couldn't have happened to a nicer medical center. I'm shocked, shocked that Yale would place profit over patients' well being.
