Alright, because you didn't ask, here are
PRELIMINARY REFLECTIONS ON VH1's I LOVE THE 90s
Them making fun of the silly commercial shit doesn't piss me off that much. It's their attempts to include "the underground," the "alternative" in their narrative of commercial nostalgia. I suppose i should have been ready for this after living through the damn decade and being here for the exploitation and destruction of at least one genre of music. But still, and without meaning to be puritanical or pretentious or essentialist, what the FUCK is Liz Phair doing? Yeah, great, sure, give the Pixies lip service but isn't the woman who wrote Exile In Guyville a talented enough artist not to have to appear on crappy tv shows with michael fucking bolton? And what does it mean for the Pixies anyway if they get less airtime than... JC Chasez's ruminations on the slap bracelet? Just a thought. Return of Jason Mewes is kind of not that intolerable though. And i'm sure Marc Lanegan, the lead singer of the screaming trees, will appreciate Dee Sinder's words of praise. More as the indignation moves me...
