Ipod seems to be working again, which is good. Sometimes it's a good change of pace to be able to listen to music while walking. Today I listened to the recent Andrew Bird cd, Andrew Bird & The Mysterious Production of Eggs. I wasn't sure what to expect, but i'd read good things, and yeah, it's a pretty good album. The lyrics are kind of oblique, but interesting, and the musicianship is very good.

I also listened to Twin Cinemas for like the fifteenth time, and the cd continues to grow on me, not quite vying with The Woods for my favorite CD of the year to date, but in the running with Come On Feel The Illinoise for a close second. (If you're wondering, my favorite CD of 2004 was probably The Go! Team's Thunder, Lightning, Strike, which is finally getting a domestic release soon, albeit with some alterations due to fucked up US copyright laws. The faculty at Youngstown state have reached an agreement to end their strike but have pledged to continue to respect the picket lines of other striking workers.

I disagree with this - there is still auto industry in the United States, and while the threat of offshoring and capital movement will continue to loom large, i don't see any possibility of "political change" that can in any way promote organizing efforts happening until 1)we are organized enough to force such change and 2)Are actively working with unions across the globe to organize workers across borders. Sitting around and waiting for the Obama administration to fix everything, or continuing to peg all workers' futures in dumping as much money as possible into Democratic Party campaign coffers isn't going to create a labor movement capable of challlenging transnational, imperial capitalism. And if workers can't find a way to do that, well, as a very stupid person once sang, "we're all pretty fucked."
