One of the other cool things about today was an encounter i had while walking home from Arlington on Columbus Ave near my apartment. I saw a woman and her four or five year old (possibly three, i guess) child walking hand in hand and singing. This would have been cute on its own, but when i realized what they were singing, i was almost overcome by the cuteness. They were doing at least snippets of Meat Loaf's classic "Paradise by the Dashboard Light," with the little boy singing the "Let me Sleep on It" part, and the mom singing the female part. The oedipal implications, like the song's own ridiculously problematic gender politics, were pretty much trumped by the novelty of a little kid and his mom paying homage to bat out of hell.
