Yesterday, a police officer told me that ours was the best picket line he'd ever seen.

I think it was because of Maris and the trumpet, but how awesome is that?

Yeah, um, so why is this in the frigging NYT?

  1. That was my question too.

Also, why is it written in the style of Charles Dickens?

But hey, maybe if alumni are successful in overturning these policies which aren't in the best interest of the Yale community, maybe it'll be a radicalizing experience for them and they'll get to work on some other ones too...

  2. I kind of doubt that, Josh. Back in the 70s, alumni started this organization called Lux et Veritas Yale, or LEVY Yale, in which they tried to force a university reeling from the mobilizations and demands of the New Haven community and the student population towards a more reactionary path. There are some YDN articles about them if you have time and a tolerance for microfim headaches. And more recently, alumni organized (admittedly this time at the behest of some former Yale administrators and contemporaneous corporation members, undoubtedly with Yale's sanction, to ddefeat David Lee's insurgent campaign for a seat at the YaleCorp table. With the exception of ABY/YASJ, I can't really think of too many examples that i know of of Yale alumni organizing to do much other than further reactionary and elitist retrenchment.
