the shiny apple is bruised but sweet

I'm back in New York at my parents' place for the weekend. Glad to be out of greater boston for the first time since the Atlantic City solidarity picket. It's been nearly two months since i've seen my parents and longer than that since i've seen my cousins and my grandparents and my great aunt whom y'all (apologies to Helena Herring) need to vote for. Emotions remain conflicted. Certain aspects of boycott coordination are extremely fun. Like when you get to talk to one of the stars of one of your favorite films about exacting vengeance on duplicitous managers. But things are also rocky, and the future is up in the air. (Isn't it always, though.) I don't know how much blogging i'll be doing over the next few days - if i know what's good for me - and i've proved repeatedly over the last year or so that I do not - i'll be focusing on dealing with grad school apps and seeing family and, if possible, friends (so let me know if you're in the area, which you probably aren't.)

Standing in the back bay train station waiting to get on the train to NY just after noon i saw a high school classmate who i hadn't seen or communicated with in probably four and a half years. We exchanged pleasantries and then she walked as far down the platform as she could without bumping into Rhode Island. Watching "Romy and Michelle's High School Reunion" on TV tonight (after watching Prizoner of Azkaban on DVD (i'm a huge dork) and prior to watching Full Metal Jacket and Innerspace on HBO) was sort of a bizarre afterword. Also, another high school classmate, Lev Sviridov, just won the Rhodes, so congratulations to him, wherever he is. That' s pretty awesome.

I feel like i could totally just sit in a bathtub for the next few months.
