hijinks!

The leaflet tonight was incredible - me and three organizers from the former UNITE who're now working on food service stuff up here. Good people. Anyway, a bit after we showed, after the doorman and the busser at the hotel had given up and left, about seven managers showed up in plainclothes - they'd gotten called at home - and stood out, with their fucking wives - and watched us leaflet the place for like an hour and a half. They started directing the all taxis into the garage so guests getting out wouldn't have to walk past the leaflets. They didn't even pretend to be unfazed. It was fantastic. Like if Levin had come out and screamed at the picket lines in the middle of the strike blizzard. Well, not quite that cool. But totally ridiculous and amazing. They made their clients into underground mole people and played the part of our nervous and completely surreal audience for an evening that managed to be bizarrely enjoyable.
