There is a "Socialist Reading Circle" on facebook. I was skimming it a few minutes ago, trying to take my mind off my paper (always a bad idea) and came upon this comment posted on the group's wall.
by the way, don't bother with Benjamin; his work is long and tedious and he tries to conflate mysticism with Marxism and surrealism; forgetting the Marxism is always atheistic and scientific!
Welcome back to the 1920s, folks. How was "all that is solid melts into air" "atheistic and scientific" again? Yeah, let's just skip Walter Benjamin. He didn't contribute anything important to, say, the critique of historical knowledge, or, uh, every discipline that has anything to do with "culture" in the contemporary academy. Sometimes, when no one is looking, I secretly refer to him as "Walter 3000."

  1. Ever heard the Dr. Laura Polka by the Prince Myshkins? The song has a Walter Benjamin joke that's pretty priceless. They've got an MP3 up here: http://www.princemyshkins.com

  2. They mispronounce his name. For shame. For shame...
