Jobs with Justice will soon crown either Smithfield or Goodyear as the Grinch of the Year, and rightly so, but for Paul Bass, the grinch of New Haven is none other than Marna Borgstrom, whose "name is mud in this town." Bass accuses Borgstrom of betraying the community's trust after promising to usher in a better era in the hospital's relationship with its workers and its city.
"That hospital's goodwill is shot in this community." I take back almost everything i said about bass after the whole Charlie Ellis/Linda Lorimer puff piece a few months ago. The coverage over the last few days has been solid, helping those of us who can't be in New Haven to storm those management conventions keep abreast of the situation.
Meanwhile, the NHI also revisits Martin Looney's captive audience legislation which Connecticut's state legislature failed to pass. The events of the past week showcase why such legislation might be useful and how destructive this kind of aggressive workplace tyranny is to workers and the communities they live in.
