Two and a half months ago, 17,000 USWA members struck 16 Goodyear Tire & Rubber plants. The Financial Times reported Friday that the Army is "considering measures to force striking workers" at at least one plant "back to their jobs" via Taft-Hartley injunction. Right now the plants are running way below capacity with managers and scabs for hire replacing the strikers.
So, does this derail or at least complicate the whole "labor aristocracy" theory in which the metropolitan proletariat benefits from imperial conquest? Granted, there's the whole question of oil, but it's not like people wouldn't by hummer tires if the U.S. weren't occupying Iraq, and while defense spending may mean pork in the form of jobs, it seems like there are some serious strings attatched...
