dear nyu wellness exchange

:Zach's Blog:
I'm fine. thank you for asking.

a little demoralized, a lot stressed, but, you know, 83 days.

Striking is not a passing mood, a sign of weakness or something you can convince yourself not to feel. It is a labor struggle that can affect you physically and emotionally and economically. It can be ended with collective bargaining. The most important step toward ending the strike — and usually the easiest — is sitting down at the bargaining table.

From the email:
Depression is not a passing mood, a sign of weakness or something you can
convince yourself not to feel. It is a health disorder that can affect you
physically and emotionally. It can be treated with counseling, medication, or a
combination of both. The most important step toward treating depression — and
sometimes the most difficult — is asking for help.
I'm not really sure what i'm going for here, but i clearly went for it.

  1. So, depression and striking are the same thing?

  2. no, of course not. I was mostly being facetious, and trying to point out that there are ways in which the NYU community is not "well" which the administration has not only done nothing to ameliorate, but has in fact instigated and made worse. Probably didn't work too well.

  3. also that there are reasons folks at NYU are frustrated and lonely and angry that don't have too much to do with chemicals in our brains or shit that can be therapized away. Which isn't to dismiss or demean the shit in our brains that is or can.

  5. No, it's a valid question regarding a somewhat ill-concieved an d narcissistic blog post.
