They Report, I Deride

Counterpunch today published what purports to be an article on Anna Nicole Smith and environmental politics. instead what we get is an orgy of bourgeois psychobabble, fucked up class politics ("She represents the postmodern fantasy of success, a fantasy shared equally by "white trash" girls as by "ghetto" ball-playing boys as by weekend gamblers feverishly scratching their Lotto cards.",) and arguably even more fucked up gender politics ("Smith illustrates how the deformation of the living body represents the destruction of the earth.") The author attempts to mitigate what is a profoundly conservative outlook by namedropping Adorno. Of course. This doesn't get him very far. The man hated jazz more than Hobsbawm hates jeans.

Does Rosen really think the body is only now being commidified? Are the folks at Counterpunch too damn lazy to demand a deeper gender critique and more liberatory gender politics? Is it morally wrong that my great aunt and uncle are having a passover seder the night before passover actually begins? Stay tuned.
