and in the middle of negotiations....
Wait a minute! What negotiations?
All right, I'm a dork. Anyway. I was holdng off on this because it hadn't been reported anywhere but now it's been sent out over the GSOC Journal e-mail and presumably that means it's public knowledge. If not, folks should contact me and i'll remove this post until such a time as is appropriate. The two major strike developments from last week, other than the victory on the blacklist duration, are (1) that the 8 original blacklistees are now officially cut off and not getting paid, and (2) that nine strikers from the English department recieved the Frank Hoppensteadt, PhD letter informing them that they are going to be blacklisted for the remainder of the semester. Everyone is holding strong (one striker was walking around on Friday with a laminated photocopy of the letter, with salient passages highlighted, safety-pinned to her chest) and the leveraging of new penalties has clearly not had the desired effect. There has been no new rush among strikers to return to work. By and large, the folks who are out are staying out. I tell you all this, dear readers, to suggest that now would be a good time, indeed, this is a crucial moment, to donate to the GSOC strike fund if you have not already done so.
