This is a struggle over the ordering and structuring of the post Bayh-Dole university, but it's also about standing up against a neoconservative assault on worker power. We have to win this fight for the letter carriers the Bush NLRB stripped of their right to organize as "independent contractors." We need to win for all the workers who will be legally threatened with being fired for organizing thanks to the Bush labor board. We need to win for the workers who will be fired for taking a co-worker out to a bar after work to talk about organizing despite the bosses' forbidance. We need to win for the graduate teachers at Columbia and Brown and Penn and Cornell, the clerical workers and adjuncts and custodial workers and security guards at NYU and elsewhere, for the graduate teachers, hospital workers, clerical and technical and service and maintenance workers at Yale and for casualized workers and workers excluded from labor board protections across the country - farm workers, domestic workers, faculty, etc. Something else I wanted to say, but it's escaping me.
