On strike for part-timers in Canada

The chroned news blog reports that faculty and librarians are on strike at the University of Windsor.

The union says it is fighting for more money for part-time faculty members, saying they receive the lowest wages in Ontario, according to The Windsor Star. Other issues include salary, teaching standards and concerns over the university’s attempts to introduce “instructional teachers,” who have less experience and, in many case, less-advanced degrees than the current faculty. The union believes such teachers would have a negative impact on teaching, research, and graduate programs. The faculty voted 96 percent in favor of today’s strike.
