Out of the frying pan, into another frying pan

When i showed up at NYU last month to meet students and faculty, this is what I stepped into the middle of. Not very encouraging in terms of the university's respect for the cultural studies faculty and students and their vision of the future of their (our) programs. And i guess it also means that even if the contract fight ends quickly, (which people i've spoken to seem to think it will not,) there'll be plenty of organizing to do anyway. Which i guess i could be frustrated by, but i also think i might find grad school kind of boring and atomizing and potentially useless without organizing to draw on. So in a perverse way, it's a little bit reassuring.
