Although maybe I'm missing the point, and what really needs to be wrestled with is the discourse of civility/quality of life as transformed by the securitized state discourses of post-9/11, post-Giuliani NYC, which is so fluid as to become applicable to both, and indeed to conflate Yankees fans jumping onto netting off the upper deck and protestors beaten in the street by NYPD riot police playing rent-a-cops to the republicans who've paid Mayor Bloomberg millions to rent out midtown manhattan as a privatized, militarized space from which 9/11 can be best exploited as a generative site for imperial politicking. The indignation of the earlier post is perhaps a cop out on my part when really this opens up a series of possible investigations into the ways in which the security state intervenes in discourses of citizenship, behavior, and subjectivity.
