Brief early thoughts on remastered rerelease of Replacements' Let It Be. (1984)

"I Will Dare" sounds too bass-heavy. Mandolin kinda falls out.

Favorite Thing/We're Coming Out lose too much of their dirty, grainy, edge. Sound too sanitized, too eighties.

"Androgynous" sounds incredible, revelatory.

"Black Diamond" - was better on the old Twintone mix. too. Less focus on Bob Stinson wankery."

"Unsatisfied" sounds way off key, but the acoustic guitars sound great.

"Seen Your Video" sounds great.

"Gary's Got A Boner" still sucks, but sounds better doing so. Lyrics actually intelligible. Not sure if that's a good thing.

"Sixteen Blue" - Sounds even better than on the twintone. The remastering really brings out the guitar harmonies. I gain respect for Bob Stinson as a subtle lead guitarist.

"Answering Machine" - sounds fine. The demo is amazing.
