Huddle Formation

The sold-out Big Sleep/Mobius Band/Go! Team show at the Mercury Lounge last night was a hell of a lot of fun. Both opening bands were really tight, but it's the Go! Team's album i've been obsessed with for like five months, (which, if you haven't heard, you need to hear, like, now.) I wasn't sure how they'd sound live, because many of the songs involve a large amount of horn samples, and the live band has (sometimes) two drummers, a recorder, a melodica, a harmonica, at times two guitarists, sometimes a banjo, and a pretty awesome lead vocalist, but no horns. But the chaos on stage was energetic and fun and inspired. I have never seen a bunch of NYC indie rock kids participate in call and response song segueways or wave their hands in the air and sway back and forth. It was revelatory, in a happy, fun, kind of way. Anyway, if you haven't yet, you need to hear this band. I'm really glad i got the chance to see them live, and if they come back this way, don't pass up a similar opportunity, because they will blow you away.
