reading this makes me feel liberated. The Red Cross rides the coattails of empire, cleaning up after the armies and the occupiers and offering meager consolation to the stateless , homeless, or those who've lost loved ones - and the bush administration won't even let them in on how many prisoners they're hiding in dungeons. I feel like terms such as "ghost detainees" or "unregistered detainees" don't really begin to address the scope and horrific nature of how the imperial management of bodies is playing itself out in this little opera of state formation and racialized brutality.
